  • Possibility to record unplanned visit in patient centric collection protocol

    Dear Openspecimen Community,

We are evaluating Openspecimen for our biobanking efforts. We mainly have prospective studies in which participants are enrolled and specimens are collected at predefined time-points (e.g. @inclusion, 3M, 6M). This can be easily modeled in Openspecimen using a participant centric collection protocol. In addition to the specimens at predefined timepoints we also collect specimens whenever a study participant presents with an unforeseen clinical event. Obviously, no events can be created on the collection protocol level for these additional specimen collections as they can’t be planned ahead of time (number of events and timepoints are unknown). Is there any way to record these unforeseen visits and specimens for a participant in a participant centric collection protocol?

    Hi @Andreas_Heinzel ,

You can create an event in the collection protocol with the label “Unforeseen visit” and no specimen requirements. Under this visit, you can then create unplanned(not defined in the protocol) specimens from the participant overview page.

Please refer to the user manual for more details - https://openspecimen.atlassian.net/wiki/x/SQDDBg

    Thanks,
    Poornima

    Hi @pgovindraom

thank you for the instructions. Please allow me a follow up question. We tried what you suggested already in the past. For this to work we have to enter some date for the event otherwise the event can’t be created. Also the event always shows up as pending event. Can this be somehow avoided?

    best,
    Andreas
