  • Queries - Specimen Location

In v2.1 (and in previous OS versions), Specimen Storage Details can be included in query results. These details include:

    • Storage Container Name
    • Storage Container Row
    • Storage Container Column

In our use, “Storage Container Name” is the name of the immediate container for the specimen (i.e. the box where the specimen resides). It would be helpful if the name of the rack and freezer could also be defined in the query results. Is this possible? I realize this might be a challenge as containers aren’t defined by type in OpenSpecimen. As one possibility, being able to include Parent Location in the query results could be helpful as it would represent more storage metadata, like the rack, shelf, or drawer where the box resides. Any thoughts?

It is possible to do this. We have many query enhancements lined up to be implemented in one of the future point releases.

Since containers are configurable, we would do something generic as:

    • Parent
    • Grandparent
    • Topmost
    • Site
