  • Sub-query Support in Reporting

Biobanks have to service request from researchers who are looking for specimens of interest. However, finding these specimens can be challenging given the complexity of the requests.

OpenSpecimen’s Query interface is a powerful tool to query for specimens. It is easy to use and biobank staff without any IT knowledge can build, save and share queries.

This article describes the “Sub-query” enhancement in the Query module in v6.1. This enhancement allows the results of one query to be used an input to another query. I.e. the first query becomes the “sub-query” of the second query.

    For example:

    1. Distribute specimens only from those patients from whom specimens have not been sent to that researcher before.
    2. Distribute only those specimens which have not been returned before.

This is a very important addition to the query interface since it makes it possible for a lot of queries that were not possible before.
