Could it happen that aliquots are:

    a. Stored in different containers?
Amy- Yes. To maximize the storage capacity of the freezers, aliquots are stored in separate containers from each other. If the specimens are always stored in a manner to maximize full containers, then the user is not left with many containers containing one open position.

    b. Are of different quantities within one-set?
Amy- Yes this can happen. If there are 2.5 ml of plasma available we will create 2 aliquots at 1ml and one aliquot with 0.5ml. In my experience investigators want their specimen specimens stored in either 1ml or 1/2 ml aliquots. This also allows for the lab to pull one aliquot and create and easily create 100ul aliquots for assays.
