  • Default container types in OpenSpecimen v3.3

In OpenSpecimen v3.3, we plan to ship default container types with the installer for some commonly used freezers. This will help administrators to refer or reuse the default container types when creating new freezers in their site. We have come up with the below list:

    1. -30 Freezer

    • Freezer with 2 zones - upper & Lower (2x1)
    • Each zone with 3 shelves (3x1)
    • Each shelf with 11 boxes (1x11)
    • Each box can hold 68 specimens (17x4)

    2. -80 Freezer

    • Freezer with 4 shelves (4x1)
    • Each shelf with 6 racks having 5 drawers each (5x6)
    • Each drawer with 5 boxes (1x5)
    • Each box can hold 81 specimens (9x9)

    3. Liquid Nitrogen Tank

    • Circular tank with 30 towers (5x6 or 1x30)
    • Each tower with 13 boxes one above other (13x1)
    • Each box can hold 100 specimens (10x10)

Please provide feedback if above is useful and suggest any other freezer types we can include.

    Thanks,
    Poornima

    Hi Poornima,
the -80C freezers also take boxes 10 x 10 with the same footprint as the the 9 x 9 boxes. Nalgene boxes are available that hold 13 x 13 samples again with the same footprint as the 9 x 9 and 10 x 10 boxes.
    The newer 2D barcoded tubes are in a tray(used instead of boxes) with the 8 x 12 - 96 format; also a 4 x 6 - 24 format tray

The LN2 tanks also hold blood bags in a specific tower type that holds 5 blood bags (I think it is 5)
Box capacities are the same as the -80C freezer
There are differing capacities for the LN2 tanks; In the large tanks there are
    Towers: 13
    54 Boxes: 10 x 10 or 9 x 9
    30 Boxes: 25 cell boxes
