  • Default privileges for protocol coordinator

What should be the default privileges that should be assigned to protocol coordinator? Shouldn’t coordinator have all privileges for the protocol like:

    1. Register participants with consents
    2. Accession specimens under visit
    3. Process specimens - Aliquot, derivatives, events
    4. Access to all data(including PHI)

Please let us know your inputs, we will make changes accordingly in OS v2.0.

    Thanks,
    Poornima

From our prospective here at Wash U a protocol coordinator should be allowed to see PHI, register participants, and run queries. Coordinators would not be handling the “processing” of specimens, therefor they should not be able to accession specimens, create derivatives, create aliquots, distribute specimens or ship specimens . Many of our coordinators like to access the CP based view so they can see what has or has not been collected for a participant. They will also use this view to see of DNA has been created from specimens. Sometimes they prefer to see the specimen tree rather than run a search when they just need some quick information about one patient.
