  • Enhanced container map view

Inventory management is one of the main aspects of biobanking. Users should be able to easily view what is stored in the freezers. We are implementing the below enhancements in coming up versions to improve this workflow:

I like the tree view and the pop-out detail. The configurable icons could be helpful, though I think being consistent with color-coding is important. For example, would the color-coded icons seen here in the storage container match up with the color-coded icons that appear during specimen collection? If not, it might cause confusion. Would the icons be configured when setting up the collection protocol? Just some food for thought.

I am a great fan of colour coding and like the idea of being able to choose icons to match the contents. The matching would have to occur from the collection tube to the storage tube and all aliquots / derivatives. I also think the situation re colour matching is very important as there are differences in say blood collection tubes bought from different manufacturers. For example Plasma containing collection tubes from Becton Dickinson could be colour coded Pink for K2EDTA: Mauve for K3EDTA, white for K2EDTA with Gel separator; Collection Tubes from Greiner Bio 1 have differing colour codes e.g. Purple cap with yellow insert for K2EDTA with Gel separator.
There would certainly have to be consistency in colour coding from the collection of samples to those in the storage containers.
I find colour coding of the actual storage sample containers helps in immediate visual identification of samples within a storage facility.
