  • How to create storage types and storage containers

Posting on behalf of Wadena Ridgell:

    "Hello Ms. Kruti Nandu,
    I’m confused between storage
container and storage type.  Does a storage type have storage
containers?  Or does a storage container have different storage types?

Also, regarding storage - how does one represent a
rack containing 16 boxes, each box has 100 slots (10 rows by 10 columns)
or 9 slots (3 rows by 3 columns) or 6 slots (1 row by 6 columns)?

You do not have to answer the question directly if there is a recorded webinar that could direct me.
    Thanks so much,
Wadena (volunteer research assistant at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine)"

    Hi Wadena,

A storage type is like a template i.e. it will comprise the basic properties and default values applied to all the containers of that type. A storage container is the actual physical entity and is always identified with a Storage type.

You can refer to https://catissueplus.atlassian.net/wiki/display/CAT/Admin+Setup#AdminSetup-SettingUpStorageContainers for a documentation on how to create storage types/storage containers.

First you will have to create storage types for each: Freezer/Rack/Box
and create storage containers of each type. For your example, you can
create a rack of 44 dimensions which can hold 3 types of boxes(1010,
33, 16). Then you can create boxes of these types and store in the
    rack created.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks,
    Kruti
