    Impossible to add specimens on community edition V12.2 : Workflow module not installed!

    Dear OpenSpecimen community and developpers,

    I am discovering OpenSpecimen bio-banking. I have locally deployed the community edition V12.2 (with docker) and after few days of use and tests, this is a powerful LIMS to handle physical storage management (freezers), project protocols and cohorts, participants…

    Unfortunately, there is actually an error leading impossibility to add bio-bank specimens (DNA, blood samples…). The error is : Workflow module not installed !

    This main feature limitation lead to an incomplete and unusable LIMS solution. I have seen at least 3 topics on the same subject on this forum (2024 and 2025), none of them provide solution to the problem.

    Some users asking if the community edition has been discontinued, some answers advise to use the 2 years old V10.3.

    Is there any solution to correctly use the last community edition of Openspecimen ? Any solution to provide this missing Workflow module to the community ?

    If someone know anything or can assist me in any way on finding information about this problem, that would be very useful for the whole community.

    Dear OpenSpecimen community,

    I’m getting back regarding the workflow module access request I made at the beginning of June (2026) and I would like to share my experience with the forum community.

    As asked in that thread, I email the OpenSpecimen team at contact@krishagni.com (June 6th).

    I had receive a quick answer (June 8) telling there was possibility to share the module. This answer gave me high hopes !
    Before sharing it, OpenSpecimen team asked some questions about our company, the OpenSpecimen usage we will do… I replied the same day.

    Having received no news regarding my request or the replies I sent, follow-up emails was sent on June 13 and on July 1st. Since then, no news, no answers, the team never got back to me.

    With an growing feeling of disappointment, we still hope we could access the workflow module to use a functional OpenSpecimen community edition tool.

    We remain convinced that OpenSpecimen is the best bio-banking tool we could find. However, the OpenSpecimen community edition (witch is free) remains non-functional for the time being.
