  • Linking a Specimen to a Cell Line

Is anyone linking specimens to a cell line in OpenSpecimen?

I was thinking I could add a custom drop down in the specimen page, but it would be nice to show more information about the cell line e.g. line name, organism, tissue, morphology, culture properties, bio safety level, disease, etc. This would be too much to fit in a normal drop down.

Users would also need the ability to add cell lines to this list.

    Any ideas?

    Hi @Matthew_Lyon

If you are collecting this information for specific study, create these as custom fields for specific collection protocol. You can also make it appear for specific types of specimens using ‘Skip Logic’ feature of custom fields. What this means is, if user selects ‘Cell Line’ type, only then these fields will be displayed and will not be displayed for other specimen types. If this suffices your workflow, we will give you documentation how to use this feature.

If these are commonly used fields, we can think of adding this to core product in future.

    Thanks,
    Poornima

We wouldn’t wan’t to enter cell line details every time your linking it to a sample. Its more like a parent child relationship, so for each cell line we know all the related samples.

Basically if we could have a form where you can maintain all the cell lines your interested in. Then in the specimen screen you can have a popup list of values field to link it to the cell line.
