Finally! “OpenSpecimen v2.0 is released!”
In fact, we are already working with many centers to go-live with v2.0.
Mid-2014 we started this ambitious journey of completely rewriting caTissue with the following goals:
- Not a single line of code from caTissue should be reused
- Use latest web technologies with desktop and iPad support
- Use latest versions of web servers, databases, browsers, etc.
- Full REST API support
- High performance, scalability, and stability
- Easy to install, upgrade, and configure
- Multi language support (Chinese and Spanish translations going on)
OpenSpecimen v2.0 has a completely new approach - both on technical and user interface fronts. The database model is largely same as before and supports upgrade from older versions.
Some initial comments from adopters:
“… we were still not entirely convinced by OS v1.1 interface and discussions ground to a halt again… I must say this (v2.0) was quite easy to install and we prefer the look and feel of this interface.”
“this is like moving from MS DOS to Mac”
What is next?
This is just the start! We will be making short releases (like v2.1, v2.2, etc) with new features, improvements and bug fixes. Refer to the product roadmap for upcoming features. Feel free to email us your comments, feature requests, bugs, improvements, feedback etc.
Latest additions to the OpenSpecimen community:
- Peter Doherty Institute @ University of Melbourne
- Hunter Cancer Center @ University of Newcastle
- National Center for Biological Sciences (India)
- Karolinska Institute / BBMRI/Se (Sweden)
- Navarra Biomed (Spain)
- Advanced Centre for Treatment Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC) animal biobank (India)
Finally a big thanks to all the community members and initial adopters for their continuous support.
