One size does not fit all
How high throughput biobanks can customize OpenSpecimen v2.0 for rapid data entry.
A single user interface will not meet every biobank’s needs - especially for rapid data entry. An ideal biobanking informatics platform should be highly configurable and easily customizable.
What is the OpenSpecimen platform?
A platform in the simplest sense exposes all the building blocks for others to create extensions and solve specialized problems. Example, iPhone and Android are pretty cool mobile platforms on their own. However, thousands of apps are developed on these platforms to solve different problems. Other examples are Google App and Salesforce platforms.
OpenSpecimen’s 100% REST based platform exposes all the features - audit trail, privileges, reporting, label generation & printing, job scheduler, custom forms & fields, LDAP integration, and so forth. Features currently supported are collection, distribution, study calendar, annotations, specimen events, QA/QC data, inventory, reports, images and cataloguing. Upcoming releases will support mobile app, dashboards, invoicing, kits, TMA, and many other features.
High throughput labs can customize the screens to exactly mirror their local workflows. This can be plugged-in to OpenSpecimen without modifying the main code base. These plugins can even be shared with others in the community as free or paid.
At Krishagni, our goal is to revolutionize biobanking informatics platform while still being free and open source. We are hoping that this release is in the direction of achieving that goal.
Thanks,
Kruti
