  • Removing specimen from storage

A question from lab staff: When they use up a specimen from a freezer, they make the available quantity zero, and create a ‘disposal’ event, but the specimen isn’t removed from the storage container. This means that they are not able to re-use the position in the storage container until they do a ‘transfer’ event to move the specimen from its storage position to ‘virtual’ location.

Is there an easier way to record that a specimen has been completely used up, and is no longer available for use, AND that the storage position is no longer occupied?

    Hi @Nick_Holden,

I would like to know which version of caTissue you are using. As I remember this was the issue in older versions of caTissue.

In the current OpenSpecimen when the specimen is disposed, disposal event is auto created for it, quantity set to 0 and specimens are marked virtually stored.
Similarly if specimens are distributed and closed then distribution and disposal events get auto logged for them, storage position is emptied, quantity is edited.
On transferring the specimens from specimen page or bulk page, the transfer event gets auto logged.

The easiest way would be to query for all such specimens, add to specimen list and add disposal event for them in bulk in OpenSpecimen

You can try this on our OpenSpecimen demo site by registering yourself on demo.openspecimen.org/openspecimen

    Thanks,

Hi Sonal. This is in CaTissuePlus, v2.0 I think

    Hi @Nick_Holden,

Ok. We had fixed this issue in caTissuePlus v3.0.x version (OPSMN-732).
It would be useful to upgrade to OpenSpecimen where we have fixed many such issues and newer enhancements which you must be aware of. You can have a look into new features here (https://catissueplus.atlassian.net/wiki/x/EwDGAQ).

    Thanks,
    Sonal
