  • Site Admin versus Super Admin Roles

    Hi,

So from my readings, you can have different sites set up in Open Specimen with different site admin for each site, which correspond to multiple bio-bank(different department) in the institution. So I created a new site and a new protocol, and found out the following:

    • Super admin, cannot see this new protocol, why it is doing that? I thought a Super admin can access all data across all sites.
    • Moreover the site administrator could access all protocols in all sites

When you have multiple repositories within a site, each site should be independent of the other, so admin for Site A should not be able to access the Site B, correct?

Please let me know why the site admin can access all protocols, even without giving him permission to it and the Super admin cannot see the new protocol where the site admin is the PI for it?

    Thanks

    Nadia

    Hello Nadia,

A Super Administrator has all the access within the system whereas a Site Administrator will only have access to the data within the Collection Protocols which belong to his site.

Please go to the individual user profiles and confirm that the users you have mentioned
    have the correct roles/privileges assigned.

    Thanks,
    Kruti

    Hello Kruti,

    Thanks for your response back.

    Yea I made sure about that on Friday and this is what I saw. Funny though when I re-started Jboss today, that changed and is no longer giving me those results);

However, is the site admin supposed to see all the protocols that are there in the entire OS? This shouldn’t be the case, correct? because admin of a site, shouldn’t be able to see the protocols of other sites or the users in other sites. Is this how OS is set up?

I went back to the description of the roles and I see that: Site admins can only add/edit protocols within their site. While the site admin couldn’t change protocols within OS site, he could see them.

Moreover, I created a protocol under the admin site, and made the admin as the PI. I created a user and gave him Technician Role access to this protocol. When I log in as this user, he can see all the protocols in the entire OS and can see all the users in the OS, there is no privacy between the different sites?

I would think that an admin of a site, does not want to share the info in his/her site with another site admin, since that would correspond to different departments within an enterprise. Is there any change that I am supposed to do to change that?

    Thanks

    Nadia

    Hello Nadia,

Site admin can register participants and add/edit data within the Collection Protocols of their site only. However, they or any user in OpenSpecimen can query for data across all protocols of all sites but only non PHI(excluding patient identifiers).

    Thanks,
    Kruti

    Hello Kruti,

    Thanks for your response back.

I have a question, so a site admin within a site is able to see the users across all sites,is this how OS is set up?

    Thanks
