Visit print labels

What is the community solution to using the visit print rules? Is this only supported by have the paid supplies module? We have a need to print visit labels in various cases and find it odd if this can only used if the supplies modules exist. If this is module is required why is this the case? We just want to put a visit label on bags after they collected the samples.

Your information is wrong. There is no question of something like this being supported only via a paid plugin.

Even the Supplies module does not support visit label printing.

Supplies module supports Kit barcode printing. The distinction between a kit barcode and visit label might be a bit confusing since the kit barcode is mapped to a visit label at a later point when the visit is created.

However, it is not the same as printing a visit label. In some of the wiki pages for Kits, it was wrongly referred to as “visit label printing” instead of “kit barcode printing”. We have fixed it.

However, your point is valid. We will consider this in upcoming releases (in the standard package; no plugin needed).

The reason why it is not supported is simple. Not many have asked for it.

We have a protocol that collects one whole blood tube per visit (with many derivatives and aliquots).That whole blood tube is labeled with the same label as the visit. The lab then prints two copies of that specimen label. One to go on the bag and one go on the parent specimen. So if the visit name = ABC-123, the parent label is ABC-123. And you can choose label print copies at the specimen requirement level so when it prints, it prints out two labels automatically.

I actually considered this approach. But I have 3 very distinct primary tissues in this protocol. I’d have to print 2 labels for one of them, which is easy, but the label has several fields, including a custom field value. I even thought of creating a ‘fake specimen’ just to be able to print it’s own visit name with it’s own label file. But I fear that’s too confusing for the study team and would conflate our metrics for sample collections.

I will look forward to being able to print this visit name field as a requisition ID for kits. I suppose we’ll be handwriting these for now. Thanks again!
